This delicious chocolate orange cake is an adapted recipe from my plain chocolate cake. I made it as my birthday cake this year and it went down very well. This recipe is for a one tier 8 inch cake. Let me know if you give it a go!

To decorate

Lots of chocolate orange goodies!! I used chocolate orange biscuits, Terry’s chocolate orange (regular and miniatures) and a bar of orange flavoured chocolate.

Method

2. Flour, sugar, salt, cocoa powder and baking powder in a large bowl. Whisk to combine.

3. Oil, eggs, orange extract, orange zest and milk in a bowl. Whisk to combine.

4. Add coffee to boiling water. Mix well.

5. Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Mix to combine. Add coffee mixture. Mix well to combine.

6. Divide between tins. Bake for 30-35 minutes until skewer comes out clean.

7. Leave to cool in tins then tip onto cooling racks.

8. Use serrated knife or cake leveller to level cakes.

9.. Make dark chocolate ganache. Break up chocolate in bowl. Heat cream in pan until steaming and almost boiling. Pour over chocolate. Leave for 3 minutes. Stir well to combine. Place in fridge for 30 minutes. Use electric whisk or stand mixer to whisk ganache until paler and thicker.

10. Make white chocolate ganache. Break up white chocolate into bowl. Heat cream in pan until steaming and almost boiling. Pour over chocolate. Leave for 3 minutes. Stir well to combine. Add enough orange food colouring to reach desired colour. Stir to combine.

11. Build cake. One cake on plate/board, top with ganache and smooth. Repeat with next two cakes. Add ganache to sides and smooth. Put in fridge to chill for 15 minutes.

12. Use a teaspoon to drip the orange ganache from the top edge of the cake. Make drips at random around cake.

13. Top with chocolate orange goodies!!
